One day after school
He said it was a reminder
To drink and drive was against the rules
He looked at me with blue eyes wide
I stared down at him with a father’s pride
Opened the door and raced him to the car

I tied one on for my little man
He smiled at me as I took his hand
Then we climbed into the car
And we went for a drive

Not too long after
Our country screamed the cry of war
My best friend answered the call
But didn’t know what he was fighting for
Up and down my street yellow ribbons everywhere
Such a simple solution to show how much we care
So I found one and I took it right outside

I tied one on for my best friend
And prayed that God would
Bring him back again
I tied it to the birch in my front yard

I got a call late last night
They said my Grandma had passed away
It had been so long since I’d seen her last
There was so much I didn’t get to say
So, with a bottle in hand and a tear in my eye
I’ll try to find a way to say goodbye
And tonight I think I’ll tie one on for her

I’ll drink a toast to her memory
I’ll raise a glass to all she taught me
I’ll be drinking all night until dawn
Tonight I think I’ll really tie one on

(I love you Gramma)

You must have a ton of
good poems from over the years.

This is very interesting how
you used "tie one on.".

Another good read.

Gosh, Nazzy.

readers note: I lost my grandmother a couple years ago and have thought often about writing a poem of/for her. I have yet to do so. I... just can't. I envy you for this write and hope that you'll understand that (just as I cannot write that poem) I can't seem to find the words to comment on this.

I think you may know, without me having to say it... how moved I am by this,
SNM

*BIG HUGS!!* I, too, have lost many who were dear to me... My Abuelita querida being the last and greatest in impact. I loved her dearly, and have, too, not been able to write anything of/for her. I can relate to you and SNM really well. This was extremely heartfelt and evoked tears to my eyes... I give my deepest sympathies and apologies for the loss of your best friend and grandmother. I know how hard it can be to move on. Very inspiring and enchanting. Another true masterpiece. I thank you for sharing this. My respects and love to you, your best friend, and your grandma. Excellent write; it held me till the very end. Much love and blessings, dearest Scott. Forever,

Votre fleur de souffrance

Naz, This poem evokes sort of a sad mood. Also, thoughts of my drinking days in college. I have two grown sons' who went through a stage of alcolhol, ect. I am greatful that they no longer use; and I feel I currently set a much better example. Your poems seem to be easy to relate to just as a person in different situations or relationships.

Anyway, a neat write
Willofree
