His "understanding"
Because so many people have related to him
The veracity of such an experience.

And as he speaks these words,
I begin to lose control
Because he could NEVER understand
What he hasn’t been through.

Until he can say that he awakens at night,
Crying and screaming of the past
Until he can declare he was jaded so severely
That he was consumed by trepidation
Until he can recall a day in which
The entirety of his faith and understanding
Collapsed before him, more stolen than lost
Until he can proclaim that he gained an enemy,
Lost a love, and destroyed himself
All in the same day
Until he knows what it feels like
To declare the word "No"
And realize that this so-called "savior"
Is nothing but two meaningless letters
Whispered over and over...
Heard but disregarded in a fit of self-indulgence
Until he can delineate what it’s like
To grieve so desperately it all goes black,
Waking up to find it’s over
But that the memories will not pass.
Then portraying a false facade
Pretending it was all a nightmare
Because reality was too much to bare.
Until he discerns what it’s like to become a "woman"
In such a deranged way,
Until he can confirm all of this and so much more,
I don’t want to hear the words,
"I understand," EVER AGAIN! [comments] => 6 [counter] => 305 [topic] => 6 [informant] => cuddlytiger17 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AngryPoetry )

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is truly, truly exceptional! I believe this is the best I've ever seen the pain of rape expressed. I, too, am intolerant of those who say they understand when in truth they couldn't possible know. They are, at best, trying to empathize... which I suppose is well intended --- but, geez! they ought to choose their words more carefully.

I am completely overcome by your honestly, your bravery and your intelligence. This is an extraordinary peice. So very, very powerful.
In awe of your ability to put this into words,
SNM

(I'd like to point this out in the Best Poem of the Day forum... but because of it's personal nature, I'm hesitant to do so without knowing your feelings. Please PM me and let me know if you would/wouldn't be ok with that... I will, of course, respect your wishes.)

when people say they understand and they clearly dont it gets me too. however im sure at sometime we will always say we understand when we dont, we dont mean anything by it just trying to comfort our friend. through your poem you have convayed emotions perfectly. dont torment yourself over this
