Among a group of her friends.
Fake smile plastered on her pretty face,
While inside, she’s screaming.
She holds her head up high,
While inside, she’s cowering.
She laughs at some trivial comment,
While inside, she’s crying.
A steady stream of tears race down her cheeks
as she wonders,
Why can’t they see her?
The girl trapped inside;
Praying for release.
They can’t see;
They only see her shell.
The act she puts on for them.
She can’t be herself.
Too much pressure.
She wishes to be free;
Free from living like this;
Free from the confines of herself.
Silently, she curses.
Knowing that tomorrow,
She’ll continue the charade.

I like your poem-
Always be who you are as anything else would be less.
Trust in your heart and take the chance that others will come to love you as you are and not as you pretend to be.
Here is something that I wrote some 20 years ago.Maybe you will like it.

AN INDIVIDUAL

Accept me for that which I truly am-
not that which you feel I should be-
for I am somewhat set in my ways-
although sometimes I am subject to change…

Allow me to do that which I do best-
by helping me to understand my mistakes-
and not holding my errors against me-
for we all do things incorrectly at times…

Forgive me for that which I do wrong-
not that which you feel to be improper-
for I am only a simple human being-
a person consisting of many different faults…

Give me a chance to prove myself-
not only to you but also to all who know me-
for as I love and respect everyone-
I only ask the same in return…

Yes I can see why it is a favorite.
Strong emotion and pain here, but written quite well. Great job!
