This is my tried and true,
Safe and sound,
Method I've used to help many,
Understand how I was found.
If you put your hand on my heart,
The beat will tell you my story.
Only some can feel the motions,
From birth, to heartbreak, to glory.
If you put your hand on my heart,
Can you hear my words come alive?
Can you experience the same I felt,
When all that has happened was live?
When you put your hand on my heart,
Can you feel the first breaths?
Taken and shaken and cried my first tears,
Can you feel my spirit come in?
Does my heartbeat race faster as the years progress,
Can you feel the changes from more to less?
Do you sense the skipping and stopping I felt,
So young and intangible, so gone to this day?
And when it is calm and my story moves on,
With my heart beating into your palm,
Can you feel the joy my heart had felt,
And know the smiles I shared?
If you put your hand on my heart,
Can you feel the loss of being scared?
And so sudden, a turn, the climax so intense,
Can you hear my heart thudding,
Tell me, what do you sense?
Is it like being lost, alone and yet not?
What does it feel like, my heartbeat this moment,
While your hands take in my past?
Can you feel the slowing, the pressing on to get through,
Like crawling through fog, and wind into
What can't be seen but still is known?
Can you feel the walls put up to shelter,
In my story, my life, can you feel what is shown?
And slowly, so slowly, the pages are turning
Do you feel my heartbeat returning?
In unsteady and shaken, trampled and torn,
Breaths and beats, can you feel?
If you put your hand on my heart,
The beats will tell my story.
Have you heard through my core,
The plot, the moral?
Have you gotten to know who I am?
Through the very life of me,
Into your hand,
Can you feel me telling my story?
