Array ( [sid] => 64894 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Spanish girl... [time] => 2004-09-23 15:31:51 [hometext] => This is to all the people who have been cast out because of their race... It angers me to see this STILL. I know what this is like, I have gone through it before, and sometimes, still go through it...Comments very appreciated! Thank you! [bodytext] => Pried open by judging eyes,
They can only see what’s on the outside…
A brown bag filled with miscellany set upon a great wall…
Center of attention,
The pink in a gray world,
All eyes stripping me till there’s nothing left…
I am not my race today, I am just me…
There is more to me than just my outer image…
A bittersweet caramel color adorns my flesh,
Large, amber, Spanish eyes,
And long, dark tresses…
My accent has long left me,
Leaving me the same, bleak American dialect…
Free-spirited and diverse from the rest,
Your sharp-edged words don’t penetrate me,
I spill no blood for you…
You don’t hate me because I’m different,
You fear me…
Because I am stronger,
I am venturesome,
I am unafraid to be myself…
To show my true colors,
Celebrate my culture with unwavering pride…
While you want so desperately to fit in,
Be another clone of the “Perfect American image”…
The world and life is like an oyster,
So many things to be discovered inside…
A priceless pearl, an occupant, long decayed…
Be it beautiful or be it revolting,
I want to perceive it, learn about it,
Experience things,
Discover the splendors of living life…
I am the dirt beneath your feet,
You say…
No, I am the rich soil that will create life,
Seedlings of the past freedom will blossom,
Into radiant flowers of the present and future…
I will make a difference…
My culture and my beliefs are my own,
Stop trying to change me!
Selfish, insecure, racist!!
Civilizations have transformed,
From something so ugly,
Into something that has flourished and embellished…
Twas the past, when we and many other cultures were put as slaves,
But it still inhabits parts of this vast world…
I am still the brown bag upon the wall,
Still unwrapped, my insides never revealed…
A tarnished diamond, but still has its gleam…
Endless string, a gold locket of memories, a plastic container holding my thoughts…
Things that have no true meaning,
They are neither precious nor priceless,
But they are mine,
And these things are dear to me…
I will never change for the pleasure of others…
I am a girl from Cuban descent,
The essence within is Hispanic and strong…
I AM Cuba…
I represent all the people that have been put down by racism,
But have all flourished because of it…
Determined to prove them wrong,
To make a difference in this society,
In history, and maybe, in this heedless world…
Spit on me, damage me, break me, do whatever,
Just don’t hate me because I dare to be myself…
Because I have the gall to be stronger than what you assumed me to be…
I ask you one thing now: Do you dare to be yourself?

>>> jumps to feet applauding, thinking that my paltry words would simply defile such a brilliantly phrased sentiment

>>> takes hat in hand and bows deeply, sweeping floor, to a wonderful talent and a true work of art. Two in fact, for the artist herself is equally magnificient !!!!
