He loved the birds, - loved them so very much,
But had to be contented just to watch;
He missed their trilling songs, their chirping's cheer,
And tweeting sweet,- my darling could not hear.

Deprived of hearing's blessed faculty
He watched the birds that landed by the sea,
Then to the skies took up their sudden flight,
Like his ideas, plentiful and bright.

Of hearing aids he bought - he thought- the best,
Net-bought,-my strong-willed love declined a test,
And sundry battery satchels idly sat,
Or rolled in drawers - or his crochet hat..

He left for heaven -and I cannot deal
With all the things he handled with great skill,
The countless tricks he managed expertly,-
A partisan to high technology.

I call on him to tell him that I fear
The weird electric- electronic gear,
The fearful wire bundles he put in,
And hook-up cables bluish, red and green

Help Stephen help me, - lost and beat I am,
A sucker to enticements and to scam,
With many cares to top my bitter grief,
You got to help me now, - please help me Steve!

Faith comes from hearing, says the great Saint Paul,
But faith can be infused into the soul,
Depends not on some sermon harsh and long,
The deaf have faith, - methinks St. Paul was wrong.

I call on Stephen when I get too sacred,
And things work swiftly out - he must have heard;
The gear stops balking while I dry my tears,
I doubt no longer that my sweetheart hears.

In Memory of my beloved Husband Stephen

The Lord always hears you, and now your husband as well. This makes me think of my son who is disabled. I often comfort myself by remembering that in heaven, he will be OK. I look forward to that.

This poem is priceless. You miss him so much and it is evident in this heart touching tribute you have written in memory of him.

It's the rare, unique and one of kind people who leave lasting footprints in our hearts.

One day you'll see him again and you'll sit together and peacefully enjoy each others company and you'll see another bird in flight and feel awed all over again.

My heart goes out to you Elizabeth and this poem was wonderful.

"I doubt no longer that my sweetheart hears." Neither do I Elizabeth! Neither do I! A lifetime love story in one sentence. Enough said.

What a marvelous tribute to your very loving other half. Elizabeth you are so blessed to sense his help. How tragic you lost him, as any widow will know.........it's not easy, it is really a long tough road.
This is simply beautiful and endearing, Elizabeth..........written with the heart, like a melodic song played on your heart strings.
Marvelous rememberance of your wonderful husband!
Warm love and hugs
