When I’ve been used to plenty,
Of fears & hurts I once held inside,
Will it feel like a part of me has died?

Is it daft to be scared to finally let go,
Of something harmful, yet something you know,
This thing is known to you oh so well,
The thing I speak of has put you through hell.

When it’s all gone will I just stop?
Feel so hallow that I just drop,
I think my fear has kept me going,
Yet nothing good to me was it showing.

Fear that’s been buried for an age,
Makes you frightened to leave your cage,
You can become institutionalised,
To be free can turn into a nasty surprise.

Maybe I should keep hold of it all,
If I let go will I then suffer a fall?
Will I end up a shadow of my former self?
Will it be more damaging to my mental health?

No, but you will have an insatiable need to fill it with love and happiness for the rest of your life. You will be very glad you did and wonder why you held on to it so long.

Hugs,
Rita
