Array ( [sid] => 6352 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => I'll Always Wonder Why [time] => 2002-11-07 04:30:00 [hometext] => About a week ago I read a poem on this site about cheating on someone. It was basically saying I'm sorry I cheated and I love you.
The poem kind of struck a cord with me, because I've never understood why people cheat or what drives someone to cheat and most of all, it baffles me that people can cheat on the person they're with, then confess their undying love for them. Cheating on someone, in my opinion, is probably the most hurtful and vicious thing anyone could ever do to another. And to do that to someone you love, someone who has trusted you with their heart is beyond me. As far as I'm concerned, if you can bring yourself to cheat on someone, you don't love them. Because that's not an act of love.
Anyway, I tried to put myself in the position of someone who had been cheated on when I wrote this. I'm just going by how I think I would feel in this situation, because to the best of my knowledge I've never been cheated on and I presonally have never cheated.
So, anyone who has been through it, I would appreciate your thoughts.
[bodytext] => Call me names, even slap me,
But always be true to my heart.
I should have made that clear,
From the very start.
If being true to my heart,
Meant you had to say goodbye.
Than it should have been said,
Before you found another guy.
Now you’re standing before me crying,
As I turn to walk away.
But no longer do I hear any truth,
In a single word you say.
You tell me how much you love me.
You beg and you plead.
You say you made a mistake,
It’s me that you need.
You promise you’ll be faithful.
It will never happen again.
But if you love me so much,
Why did it happen then?
How could you do this?
I didn’t know anything was wrong.
Now I’m constantly wondering,
Why and for how long?
How could you hurt me so?
I will never understand.
If you love me so much,
Why were you with another man?
You promise you’ll be true.
But how will I ever be sure?
With trust and respect gone,
My heart battered on the floor.
If you were so unhappy,
Or felt I didn’t treat you well,
We could have talked about it,
Because I really couldn’t tell.
Now you’re upset and crying,
Because I have to go.
But when I ask you why,
Your response is, “I don’t know.”
I wonder, when it happened,
As you were lying in his bed,
Did a single thought of me or us,
Run through your cheating head?
You tell me that you love me so much.
You always have and always will.
But that’s what scares me most,
Because you cheated on me, still.
That’s not my idea of love.
I think it’s much closer to hate.
Whatever problems we had,
To fix them, it’s too late.
Now when I look at you,
I don’t know the woman that I see.
I can’t fathom how you could do this,
Then insist that you love me.
But know I still love you.
Though I feel I have to say goodbye.
This wound you’ve given, will never heal.
And I’ll always wonder why. [comments] => 15 [counter] => 409 [topic] => 22 [informant] => MisterRight [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 21 [ratings] => 5 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LostLove )

I have been cheated on before
It's very painful and it rips your trust
right out from under you, and the sad
part of it is when you feel you can forgive
them as i felt i could, that thought of
what they did is always still there
in the back of your mind, it doesn't go
away, and everytime they come home late
or you dont see them , that thought comes
up in your head. It's a very painful thing
to have to go through, it's best to let
go of the person as you have written
in this poem. Great write Curtis
Keep em' coming

I've gone through this before, and truthfully, I would rather be cheated on than to go through what I went through with that guy that I dated... but I'm not going into that... but being cheated on does hurt. And it's really not a show of love at all! I whole heartedly agree with you there. Great write!!!

Well, I know what it's like to be cheated on. This was a perfect description of how I feel. I've been married for 5 years, and we have 3 children under 5. Despite knowing how hard life MAY be without him, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I cannot live like this-- questioning all the time. Excellent write!

I think that, that poem is brilliant, wow. I definately agree I do not understand how a person who says they love someone can cheat on them and still claim their love! It's insane!

Anyway beautiful Poem!

I have been cheated on. In my situation she told me about it as soon as it happened. i find myself lucky in that sense. it hurt, bad. The pain is unexplainable, but i loved her so much still. I forgave her from the bottom of my broken heart. I love her to this day as much or more than i did two months beform the incident, even though she broke up with me a week later. Love is crazy but when you both have it figured out, its bliss, heaven. This poem is very accurate. Very good as well.

it took me two years of this to finally be strong enough to say I'm worth more. The worst thing about being cheated on is losing your self worth. No amount of sorries will give you back that part of yourself, and I very rarely trust anymore. You put down the feelings like you've been there, I hope you never are. Luv Viola:)

Hi Curtis...Great job you did here.. I don't know how come I missed this earlier.. Fortunately, I can't say I have ever been cheated on.. and I have never cheated in my 23 plus years of marriage.. But this was powerfully written..

awesome poem Curtis. I, myself have never fully understood everything behind 'cheating'..but it does happen. For soo many different reasons. I suppose none of them really make sense in the end but each person is an infividual and each situation unique. And I suppose that until we are in that actual posistion we will just never know how we would react. But in the end it all really just sums up simply..it hurts like hell.

I love this poem. It is so sad when someone cheats on you, but whats worse is if you believe that ;that someone is the one your with for the rest of your life. it is especialy hard when you base your life around this cheater!! And your made the fool.

even though this poem is great, there is another side to it, from my point when one cheats it isnt always about the sex, sometimes they are looking for a better life

I agree with that completely, but again I ask "Why do you cheat?" If it's a better life you are looking for that would mean you're not happy where you are. If you're not happy where you are, then leave and find that better life. Whether you are happy with the person you are with makes no difference, they have trusted you with their heart and if you're looking for something better I think you should show them enough respect to end things with them before you try to find that "better life." To hold onto them only shows a lack of respect for them and low self-esteem on your part. Are you holding onto this person who isn't providing that better life because you're afraid you may not find it? Seems a bit selfish to me to stay with someone you're not comitted to until you can find yourself something better.
