I'm trying not to fall
so I can keep you
from falling through
into the space under the stairs.

I stand before you
terrified, and dizzy
I don't want to fall
yet I no longer want to hold on to the rail.

You close your eyes
and I know you know
the only reason I don't fall
is to keep you standing upright.

I love this . . . loved it on es and love it here. One of my favorite poems by you, maybe because I (in my own way) relate to it so much, and maybe because you write about it so well. Great job . . .

This is excellent. It conveys the deep sorrow felt and the grief that needs to be released. Yet having to be strong for the loved one of the deceased. I have been in that position before and it is extremely difficult to hold together for the others. You relayed this pain well,
