since your lips last kissed the air
three eternities of your face
haunting our dreams
and o'er a thousand sunsets
have painted the skies and bled for you
since the last one that you saw
three Christmases, as well, have passed
with an empty tree-side space
where you should have, would have been
and your children, dear, are that much older
your spouse's eyes are shadowed still

and we
we are beginning to heal, maybe
we bled for you in shades
of red and white and blue
but slowly, slowly, the wound is closing
we are learning to smile again
we are learning to live as you'd want us to

but

there is a scar that will not fade

and, while for you we will smile,
for you we will never forget. [comments] => 7 [counter] => 205 [topic] => 38 [informant] => ShadowDaughter [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 20 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Tributes )

Thank you, Nora. May America never forget not only those that lost their lives but the families that suffered, and suffer still, from that tremendous loss.

This could quite possibly be the best memorial poem I've ever read. I felt chills and tears coming on at the same time. You continue to amaze me, darling.

We are all scarred... scarred, perhaps, in ways we are only beginning to understand.

I've not written of September 11th. I suppose, I just felt it was simply too enormous to put into words. You have managed it, though... with grace, with respect, with honestly. This is beautiful, Nora.
