My cat next to me
Licking her fur
Moving my bed
I pictured her as a rat
Walking around the house
Laying next to me cleaning herself…
I thought about how people freak out about rats
Yet own a cat or two…
What’s so different??
One is classified as a rodent
The other feline…
Both have hair
And both bite
They both eat, sleep
Release their waste from the back
I now can’t figure out the difference
Why we treat one more nicely
and the other one we don’t…
How come people fear the old rat
Yet welcome the cat with love
Sleeping next to a rat
Is not that different
It is an animal that can love… [comments] => 10 [counter] => 243 [topic] => 54 [informant] => Pyrofungus [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 13 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => happypoetry )

I've not known many cats to live in sewers, but I may be wrong. As far as I know, cats tend to be more self-conscious than rats - and they always land on their feet.

I get your point, however - but rats are stereotyped beyond their capacity to redeem their image, I'm afraid.

Good write.

Maybe it's because a rat will get in your pantry and wreak havoc. Or, maybe it's because a rat is bad ugly. Or, maybe because the cat meows and the rat squeeks. Or, maybe all these things. Good luck on your quest for weighty answers to lifes paradoxes.

Well I guess I can see your point...if I squint really hard...lol. I am an avid animal lover but I can honestly say that I do not think I will ever cuddle with a rat. Then again I guess I have had a boyfriend or two in my life that have been much worse.
great write my friend,
Sharon;)

Oh man this is so funny. This was great. I've cuddled with friendly kittys who've scratched me unnecessarily in the middle of the night, so I suppose I might try sleeping with a friendly fat rat!! Hey we are all made from the same web of life. Peace to all the cats and rats, and thanks for sharing this.

Very witty. I have cuddled a few male human rats in my day, but I don't think they carry disease like the common rat does. Neither do my cuddly kittens and cat. AND, they are a heck of lot cuter. So I am shallow?

Smiles,
Rita
