Array ( [sid] => 62619 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Awaken [time] => 2004-09-05 11:43:44 [hometext] => This is my first attempt at a non rhyming poem. I hope you will read and provide me feedback on the poem [bodytext] => I rise early from my bed, as I cannot sleep.
The boards squeak beneath my bare feet as
I walk across the bare wood floor.
I open the screen door as it yields with a squeaking sound.
I slowly make my way over to the large oak swing.

The early morning pre dawn haze lingers in the air.
I can feel nature's dampness on my face.
Like the brush of God's gentle hand.
As I settle down on the large wooden swing
I think, at least this tree got put to good use.

I can feel the large, strong, hand hewed logs support me
As I gently swing back and forth.
A feeling of sadness touches my soul as I envision
The cross Jesus had to bear on His back.
Thus I can sit here and take in His living legacy that lies before me.

I see the majestic fiery sun rise before me
As the awesome curtain is drawn to reveal
The wondrous symphonic sounds and sights of nature,
The croak of the frog from the mist covered pond
and the call of the far off bird crescendos as it approaches.

I can smell the pungent, sweet fragrance of the wild roses in the air
And the feel of misty moisture soothes as it touches my face.
And then the far off eerie, forlorn, melodious sound of a Loon
Filters across the lake. And a shudder permeates my body,
As I ponder all the lost souls and my heart felt sad.

Then the curtain of light rose higher in the sky
And more was revealed to me in the early light of day.
I could see the majestic trees all around me. And natures'
Creatures scampered to and fro performing their chores
And through the trees I saw the majestic Eagle soar.

What a symbol of life, freedom and majesty that bird has turned out to be.
I felt a feeling of pride well up inside me.
Then I saw the white dove and my heart nearly burst with a feeling of love.
As I surveyed the scene, the curtain had risen higher
There before me was revealed God's Kingdom on Earth.

Then in the midst of my revelry I heard a child's voice call out to me.
"Grandpa, breakfast is ready".
I looked down to see my grand-daughter's face smiling up at me.
We gave each other a grin.
Then she climbed up on my lap for a loving hug.

A feeling of love and awe overwhelmed me as
The gift of Jesus' love and compassion filled my heart.
No longer did I have that lonely feeling.
And as we got up to part and join the family
I again heard the call of the Loon and was filled with empathy.

I must apologize, for I had seen this as it posted but had not the time to comment. As a first attempt ... 'tis a success !! Painted clearly with much emotion. Very pleasurable read.
