WHERE THE SAYINGS COME FROM

Please come with me, in my "Time Machine."
Let's stop in the 1500's and observe the scene.
'Twas the month of May, one bath yearly.
Lovely brides wed in June, smelled "barely!"

However, just incase they smelled a trifle bit,
Carried bouquet of flowers, body odors n'er emit!
Yearly baths consisted of one large tub.
Man of the house privileged, clean water scrub.

Hot water still fairly clean after him.....
Next, other men and sons dirty water's brim.
In line woman, children, and poor babies last!

Water now is thick with dirt, baby lost or passed.......

Saying "Don't throw baby out with water of the bath!!!"

Thatched roofs--thick straw, piled high, no wood!
Severe winters, dogs, cats, mice, rats--live up there as they should!
Rain came pitter patting down slippery slide......
Animals catpulted one by one inside!!!

Hence the saying, "It's raining cats and dogs!"

Imagine, you're snoring away, complete peaceful sleep.
Bugs, animals, all slipped through.....hard to housekeep!
Something had to be devised to grant undisturbed night.
Sleeping with wet cats and dogs not exactly a delight!

High posted beds, with sheets spread over the top.
A sheet cover pulled over complete for animals to stop!
I always thought it was for beautiful decoration?
Therefore; canopy beds with curtains for protection!

Warm and nice clean bath enjoyed by me and you.....
Remember how it could be and appreciate,
the wonderful breakthrough!
Before falling asleep, strong sturdy roof overhead.
Be thankful--for the only protection we need is a beautiful bedspread!

You always come up with something interesting, Connie. I had read this before but you turned it into pictures of real life.
