So short and then it’s gone.

I line up next to my brother Peter,
He holds my hand and tells me
“Everything’s going to be alright”
I don’t believe him.

The Nazi stands in front of us,
Gun in one hand,
Our lives in another.

He shouts at us,
Too quickly for me to understand.
I just stand and think,
What would I have done?
What would I have been?
If I’d been given the chance.

He strides up and down the line.
I’m too young to die,
My brother squeezes my hand tight,
He knows what is going to happen.

He slowly moves up the line,
Shooting every other person.
Each shot sends a wave of terror through me,
Til I cant stand it no more.

I break free of Peter and make a run for it,
All I hear is screaming and shouting.
I’m running and running,
My heart is pounding.

All I think about is survival,
I can feel the wind on my face,
Freedom within an arms reach.

Suddenly my legs give way,
They won’t carry me no more.
I fall to the ground,
My fate is sealed.

I hear the pounding of their boots on the ground,
I hear them coming for me.
I hear the bullets aimed at me,
But which one has my name on it?

It’s just a matter of waiting to die. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 161 [topic] => 31 [informant] => tabby [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => StoryPoetry )

This truly made me sick. Excellent job placing me in the shoes of anyone that experienced this atrocity. The closer gave me shivers as well
