CONTRADICTIONS IN TERMS…(©Peter Sprenkeler)
“Friendly Fire”…a classic contradiction in terms,
The battlefield expression of which my condemnation it earns.
“Humane Bombing”…a phrase coined during the recent war,
An appalling expression…which we all just have to deplore.
“An Honest Politician”…seems unlikely and hard to believe,
When invariably they do little more than completely deceive.
“Christian Militia”…the thought fills me with fear,
Those supposedly ‘His’…defying all He holds dear.
“Punishment To Suit The Crime”…so rarely the case,
Fifteen years for murder…a complete judicial disgrace.
“Diplomacy”…a meaningless word that no longer applies,
Military might is what counts…surely no great surprise.
“Social Justice”…two words that should never be joined,
For many justice is rare…too frequently purloined.
“The United Nations”…there is just no truth in the phrase,
A big dog with no teeth…numbered are its days.
“Made in Australia”…oh yes if only it were true,
The fibres may be…but Taiwanese is the shoe.
“Fat Free”…the vibrant label does sing,
The reality is…there is no such thing.
“True Lies”…is the expression more befitting our race,
Our inhumanity and injustice…is a social disgrace.
“The Morning After Pill”…a typical example of our time,
Society is in serious error…when murder is no longer a crime.
