I never held hostility towards you,
Never thought about you crossly.
Only a few times did I envy you,
What you had that was lost to me.

You come to me when I have healed,
And ask me who I am.
Why my life is faintly traced in yours,
If I am part of a love life scam.

I suppose it’s no use hiding,
What for so long I have kept.
You’ll be the first to who I’m confiding,
I would understand if you wept.

But the truth is always sought,
I know I should ease your mind.
If only you can promise me,
This will not be your last thought of him.

It was many years ago,
Thirty-one to be exact,
When I first met your fiancé,
And couldn’t deny the fact.

You were to be married to him that fall,
Of your lives together, he told me all.
Yet still neither of us could leave behind,
A feeling of that kind.

I fell in love with a committed man,
Who I know I should have stepped away from.
But I didn’t, not then, and I didn’t know,
That I would always wait for him to come.

After you were married, and settled in your home,
Once a month he met with me,
The one day I was not alone.
And we went on that way, happy and free.

But you must know, he loved you so
He would never have let go.
You were his life, his wife, his everything
As I was his other love to know.

If this is hard to hear, I’m sorry
To have kept it all along.
He could not bare to leave either you nor me,
In both, he said, he belonged.

He wouldn’t have wanted you upset,
He knew it was hard on us both.
I had him twelve days of the year,
While you shared with him every day.

I never loved another man,
My life was devoted to him.
I remained faithful to what could have been,
As he remained to you.

I see the tears you’re weeping,
I know that I have caused them.
But if you stop to remember,
What he would have said…

In my life I lived so lonely,
No husband, children, family.
That one day each month was my only glory,
This was my one and only love story. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 193 [topic] => 24 [informant] => Calista [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LoveRemembered )
