My whole day would be torture from the time I had risen.

It was just me, my sister, and my brother,
Living there with my father and my evil stepmother.

We would always worry about what that day would bring,
We couldn't do anything there, not even sing.

Our days would be nothing but chores,
Why was this the life we were forced to live, weren't there any other doors?

They would work us all day from morning until night,
And hit us if would put a fight.

All day they would tell us to do the laundry and clean dog cages and oh so much more,
And if we didn't do it right it was the next world war.

It was a relief when we got to go to my moms for the weekend,
But when she asked how our week was we had to lie and tell her great and nothing happened.

Finally one Thanksgiving we let everything go,
We told her everything we wanted her to know.

About the chores and the yelling,
About the hits and the swelling.

Then she did what we had hoped she would do,
She hit him up with custody papers and a hearing too.

It was only about a year and a half,
Then the whole thing was settled and now we can laugh.

We're all happy now as one big family,
We're out of that prison we called home finally.

We have friends and are getting good grades,
And not worrying about the next couple days. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 194 [topic] => 65 [informant] => amber1988 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => toughstuff )

I know how it feels. When I was younger and defenseless I would worry everynight about my parents fighting or coming t kick mine and my brothers asses. But I got older and got courage... and I am no longer afraid. I have spent time in a correctional facility for jueviniles ( not juevy ) and "home" can still be more of a prison than anything else.

Always have courage and don't let anyone bring you down. You are what you make yourself to be.
