streetlights creating shadows,
darkening her face.
Windows close as she walks by,
why is she out so late?
what trouble has she caused?
Her black clothes match the pitch of night,
the scarce light catching her silver chains,
and cascading across her eyes.
Her hair pulled back in raven locks,
silver crosses in her ears,
why is she dressed like that?
what is she trying to prove?
Acused always for being young,
prejudiced for her appearance
this teenage girl is me,
or at least what the others see.
If only they could witness,
the childs innocence that thrives inside,
but due to societies view,
I feel like a child painted black.
Covered with the preconseptions,
that come from being an individual,
instead of a slave to normal.
But hey, soon that normal could be me,
then I could judge the others by appearance alone,
whether their nails are painted black,
whether their clothes are expensive brands,
instead of who they are inside,
if they are what is considered 'normal'
or if they are painted just like me.

Hi there Delusions_of_Grandeur,

First poem of your`s I`ve read. I`m impressed. LOVE the title, it`s what brought me in for a closer look.
You let me see life from your perspective with this one.
We all gotta live our own lives, as long as we respect others, to each his own.
I`m surprised this didn`t get more notice, could be a hundred different reasons. I hope it`s not "more misconseptions". I don`t think so, the folks here seem to be pretty open minded.
I`m a basketball player too.
I`m pressed for time. I only have time to read one more of your`s for now.
Gary
