Watched the sun as it was leaving off to start a brand new day
as it’s always done for all it’s life ‘cos it knows it’s own way;
with the birth of one more evening I found words I had to say
‘bout the way the human race has let itself be led astray
by those who think it’s warmth belongs to them with none of it to share,
while some others leave it all to others doing nought but stare
at all them who take it all for granted seeming they don’t care
‘bout the rest who dread the darkness and the coldness of the air.

We need to pray that come the morning skies’ll tinge with wisps of light;
that when we wake we’ll all be breathing at the end of one more night;
that the operator’s there and gets the message through all right;
and love and peace will long outlive the rueful work of human blight
spawned some thousand years ago, conventioned, named and set to breed,
enfolding freedom in a wrap of knitted rules construed as need
to them whose conscience gains it’s meaning from the words of their own creed
whilst clouded boundaries now exist ‘tween what’s ambition and what’s greed.

I keep on asking all my questions every day of every week,
and sometimes answers come my way to lead me up the well-known creek,
whilst some received demand my very soul to be no more than meek
by implication of the order: ‘Take as one which you do you seek’,
but there’s something in my nature to refuse a boot to lick,
and just the thought of ever doing so ‘s enough to make me sick,
it’s like a pill I’m asked to swallow and believe it's not a trick
‘cos the penny dropped some time ago, I know I heard the click.

Well this is it, it’s nearly morning, I sit here with empty head
‘cos I spent the night a-writing ‘bout what I know’s to be said;
but before I stop my rambings there’s one thing now left to add,
so here’s the truth from my perspective be it good or be it bad:
there are pills for each occasion that needs shadowing with lies;
there are pills that hide the reasons just in case we might grow wise;
there are pills yet not invented which should come as no surprise;
there are pills to numb the aching as the spirit slowly dies.

*shall be mentioning this in the best poems of the day forum, as soon as I finish commenting*
*rereads, awestruck*
*did I mention I'm still impressed?*

Wow . . . this is amazing. I love your message, I love your writing style, I love your talent for having rhythm in your rhymes (something I'm seeing less and less of, lately, and quite appreciate), and most of all I absolutely am in love with the last four lines.

Fantastically done.

I completely agree !! I couldn't have said it any better!! Today's society just fears everything..... basically fears life itself. No one knows how to live. And the goverment and media just " forms us like clay ." We belive what we see and hear without knowing the truth. And everyone lives in fear of others and themselves. Pills for everything now. Our society is to co dependant. Anywayz.... Great Job!!!
