So we moved a little closer east
We waited to hear any screams or cheers
All we could see were white lights and the tips of people’s heads

We waited so long the lights started to dim
We were bored just standing there
We wanted to move, but we felt abode to stay
The cars past us on their way-out onto the muddy track

The moon poked her head from the grey mountain tops
The sun said ‘good bye’ as it descended from the sky
And we just stood there
Never to reply

We waited and waited - always waiting for something
Something with power
A generation silenced and fed
We’re the mother’s children that all got kept

And the moon came and it went
And we watched and we stared
And we saw the lights of the far away carnival wane in the murky gloom
As the last dime was spent by someone younger who had already bloomed [comments] => 3 [counter] => 195 [topic] => 64 [informant] => overstated [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => ambiguous )

AUTHOR NOTE:

I think this poem is quite misunderstood:

I’m in my early/mid twenties - the poem is all about my generation and the feeling that we missed our chance to say something to the masses hence we waited too long.

it's interesting how you've rwritten this one.
you've used nice, yet unsual little phases, like
"The sun said ‘good bye’ as it descended from the sky" - i like that one loads, it really sets te sence, and
"A generation silenced and fed" - IT MAKES THE READER THINK OF ALLTHE HAPPY CHILREN THAT YOU SAW...
great job!
