At 17 years old, I would have to dissagree. Yes, sometimes I feel that I would be better on my own and then I realize that I am still in my mother's care for a reason. I sense a great deal of frustration from this poem. I could not see (no pun intended) what they were blind about. That parents hold them back? Wonderful expression of your feelings though. Keep on posting.

Although you're clutching the wrong end of the stick on this one;
I think that you articulated it well.

Children see things only from a very short perspective. This is only
natural, since they simply haven't lived long enough to gain the
experience from making the mistakes that their parents have made
to earn their hard-won knowledge.

And yes, parents are rather pathological about trying to pass on
their hard-won knowledge to their off-spring whom they so dearly love.

It's the way Nature intended. You see it all the time in the animal kingdom,
where the mother and father pass on their knowledge of survival to their pups.

So don't blame your parents for acting as Nature intended. They are
following a program hard-wired into all parents of every species.

And when you become a parent, and after you've experienced some of the
knocks and bumps that life will surely hand you; you'll come to realize that
your parents have all along, only had your best interests at heart.

I hope that you'll have the grace to apologize to them when enlightenment
hits you.

I disagree with the above comment posted by Stoney. The last five lines are the only ones that I think have some real significance. Sometimes, age and being an adult does not make anyone more wise than a child. Children have the knowledge and spirit of God. Adults poison their children with the evil wicked ways of the world. Parents are not alwyas right or know what is right for their children. There comes a time when young adults need to be let go of that way they can learn to make good judgements based on their own personal experience and not just what adults tell them. Either way.........no matter how young or how old someone is............... we as humans will never have all the answers or be fully mature...............
