Array ( [sid] => 5951 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Fallen Angel [time] => 2002-10-31 05:00:00 [hometext] => In honour of Nikki, one of my street kids. [bodytext] => With haunted face now so forlorn
She stands there in the early morn,
Aged fourteen, so young so slim
Dark brooding eyes and ebony skin.

I say, "I've searched for you for days
She replies through a drug filled haze,
"I'm here now Dal, full on, alive"
"I know the street I will survive."

We sit and talk I share her dreams
Of how once clean, her life will be
Filled with love, with joy, with hope
No more the need to seek out dope.

Then in her voice a change of tone
"Is there a God or are we alone,
"I've been so filled with misery"
"If there's a God, He can't find me."

"Promise me you won't deceive me
"Don't grow old and please don't leave me,"
"A fallen angel I may be"
"But I'll break through just wait and see."

"Dal I've gotta take off now"
Shout me a "Macca's, I need some chow,"
Then she walked out of my sight
Another child lost to the night.

One morn a knock upon my door
The policeman said, "Come to the morgue"
"We found her in a dumpste bin"
She'd overdosed on heroin...

This is so sad
It must be so hard for you
to face these kids each
day and grow attached to
them, and then to lose one
so painfully like this
My heart goes out to you
and these kids

it is sad that there are so many street kids out there that have been abused in some way or another so they choose the streets as their homes and drugs as there source of pain killr to forget where they are at right now... but remember Dallas if you can save just one and get him/her on the straight and narrow then it makes your job worth while and i know you are striving to do this with everyone of these kids that you see every day.
great write
love, peace and happy poetry

Beautiful ... emotional ... you've been to hell and back in your own life, and yet you are there for these kids ... and sometimes you lose them - it must be very heartrending. I admire you.

Poetry must surely be a great escape for you.

Wonderful poem.

Really emotional poem for me -my brother has relapsed several times in the last 10 years to heroin ~ I know he is trying to beat it but it's such a powerful drug...-I wish she could have made it-but atleast she is no longer suffering. Very well written-thanks for sharing-and another thanks for trying to help street kids-they may have made some bad decisions-but they need help and support from people like you to turn their lives around....I just wish they could all be saved but life on the streets kills.... Tragic and sad.... It's a shame that this has to reflect so many.

Wonderful poem. Unfortunate that stories like this even exist. "If there's a God, He can't find me." - probably the strongest line I have read on this site. Take care.
