'TIS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS!"

A local funeral director would ask.....
a young preacher to help him with a task.
It seems someone died in his care,
But had no friends, or family to declare.

He told the young preacher to preside........
over a service at this person's graveside.
Young, conscientious preacher starting early.....
but quickly found himself lost, very clearly!

Half-hour late, he saw a backhoe with crew.....
but couldn't locate the hearse in his view.
Eating lunch, the crew was sitting by it's side.
Munching away and visiting by the graveside.

He knew he was late--hurriedly went to the open grave.
Inside found the vault lid in place to save.
He took out his book and read the service.
Feeling guilty for being tardy he read each verse.

The sermon was impassioned, and lengthy
With great style, sending the deceased up comely.
As he returned to his car, he overheard them begin their chat.
"I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years,
and I ain't never seen anything like that!"

Ah yes......but I already know the snears and jeers, and have seen the true tears.......no worms will I be feeding.......but up in smoke to go....maybe I can be ......one more whiff to take, but as I stand in line a waiting, before those pearly gates.......
St. Peter will be frowning......cause of the noses I had to ache.......so once more as I pass in respect.....my poor head will surely ache....as he passes me through, and slaps me not on the back.......but I had to make that mistake.
I liked that one.....thanks for sharing.
