Array ( [sid] => 59116 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Lessons [time] => 2004-08-06 10:11:30 [hometext] => I wrote this 8 months before my daughter, Keirra Lynne was born. It is her song. I also dedicate it to the greatest man I know, Papa Tommy. Thanks for letting me share ... [bodytext] => I was told the other day
I would soon become a dad
Lord it seems like yesterday
I’d just become a man
I prayed to God for guidance
Hoped he’d tell me what to do
He said, “ I have granted the gift of life
The rest is up to you … “

“ You’ve got to learn when to be tough …Learn when to be strong
Try your best to teach your kids the difference `tween right and wrong
Learn to enjoy the time you get to sit and watch them grow
Learn to love and hold them tight … then learn to let them go. “

I don’t know if I’m ready
To be followin' my Papa’s lead
How can you tell when you’re wise enough
To know what your children need
And as I lie awake tonight
Wondering what the future will hold
My mind just begins wandering
And I recall what I was told …

“ You’ve got to learn when to be tough …Learn when to be strong
Try your best to teach your kids the difference `tween right and wrong
Learn to enjoy the time you get to sit and watch them grow
Learn to love and hold them tight … then learn to let them go. “

I hope someday I can find a way
To be half the man my Papa's been
With a thundering voice, gentle hands
And a love that's genuine
I don't have all the answers
But I have the best of friends
And it seems those times when I need it most
I hear those words again …

I’ve got to learn when to be tough and learn when to be strong
Try my best to teach my kids the difference `tween right and wrong
Learn to enjoy the times I get to sit and watch them grow
Learn to love and hold them tight … then learn to let them go

Learn to love and hold them tight
Then learn … to let them go [comments] => 8 [counter] => 297 [topic] => 34 [informant] => Nazmythian [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => SongLyrics )

This is a true masterpiece. Beautifully written, and a great piece of advice. It is hard to grow up all of a sudden when you become a parent. Im sure you will do great. I can't say enough about this write. Take care...

Kimberly :)

This is really good Scott.
I really dunno what to say about it though. What can anyone say about someones feelings?
Still, it's beautiful, and I can see how happy (And maybe scared) you are in this.

Great write hunni,
*hugs* Phil xxx

Ya know, you've stolen my breath too many times today, mister! ^__^ S'ok though, I've learned how to live breathless.

Once you told me about this song you wrote for Kierra, I went on my search, :P. Finally found it after taking my time and strolling through some oldies (but hella goodies!!). Parenthood is a myriad of wonderful things: growth, love, self-awareness, and joy. Lots of it. To go through such a life-changing experience as hearing your baby's first cries, or a sweet melody of attempts to say Dadda... must feel like you're on top of the world... and then some. You've been blessed with 2 bundles of heaven, and they love you somethin' grand! I enjoyed this proclaimation of adoration and bliss quite thoroughly, :D. Especially this:

Learn to love and hold them tight
Then learn … to let them go

I spilled a tear or two when I read that line, ^.^. I'll quit my yapping and leave it to this: Everything, and I mean everything, you write is utter perfection. You're a genius, and you can keep yer modesty, dearie, :P. I love reading your work. It gives me a new perspective, and bountiful inspiration. I can't thank you enough for sharing, cheri. It's been one divine and exquisite year! Cherish the ones you love, honey... and tell them every chance you get exactly how you feel. LOOOVVVVEEEE this. But I must say your voice has matured a significant amount, and just the essence in your poetry is completely different... and why not? We all change as time passes us by. You've blossomed beautifully, my dear, ^__^. May we all learn from our lessons, and teach others of our experiences. Excellent piece. All my love, chasseur. Forever,

Your slowly healing flower,

~*Stephy*~
(Who can't thank you enough for all that you've done... and more. Je t'aime.)
