[hometext] => This poem is a variation of Bob's "The trouble with Marraige". A few changes were made and a few verses were added but Bob's poem is the base and inspiration.
[bodytext] => Twenty years of married life. Celebrate or rue it? Twenty years of love and strife. How did we ever get through it? Where did all the years go? We can’t really be this old? Just yesterday we were planning our future, Now we’re watching it unfold. We thought that we could analyze, and pay all bills past due. Sadly though we realize, we haven't got a clue! Statistics for the USA haven't changed in 20 years. 90% of folks get married, half of them end in tears. What's the difference for the half that make it? Well it's not that initial "lust". That only lasts a couple of years, or less, then the lust usually turns into rust. Something has to take it's place to bring maturity. Like children, hope and compromise, tolerance and security. We’ve learned not to be "pig headed", trying to always win. One of the greatest things we’ve learned is "the art of giving in!" The grass often looks greener on the other side, that’s tough! But for those who stay the course, it never looks quite green enough. We've raised ourselves a family, And fulfilled a few of our dreams. Now that we’re getting older, We wonder what our lives mean? It means we have grown much, Along the path of life. We've given what we could, And learned to handle strife. Yes, we've had a few problems, As most couples have. But you know as I do, Our lives aren’t all that bad. I thank God for Haylee and Kelsey. They’re very special girls. I also thank God for sending me you, There’s no one else for me in this world. There are still some things we have to learn, In the coming years. There will be more laughter, But also a few more tears. And if we had to do it over, We’d probably change a thing or two. But the knot that binds our lives and love, Would remain between me and you.
