Array ( [sid] => 58444 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => A Friend to Have Forever [time] => 2004-08-01 22:09:32 [hometext] => I dedicate this poem to a really good friend who has been there for me even when I was homeless and was living in a shelter. Will you please email me princess_jojo36@hotmail.com to tell me how you liked it. [bodytext] => Prologue
Sometimes people come into your life
And you know right away that they were meant to be there
To serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson,
Or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to be.

A friend is someone we turn to,
When our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure,
For friendship is a gift.

A friend is someone you who fills our lives
With beauty, joy, and grace,
And makes the world we live in,
A better and happier place.

There’s nothing as nice as someone who shares,
Your laughter, your secrets, your wishes, and cares,
Someone who is there through good times and tears,
Who stays by your side as a friend through the years.

Circumstances have pulled us apart,
We are separated by many, many miles.
Truly, the only thing that keeps me going,
Is my treasured memory of your smile.

You never, ever judge me
You understand my sorrow.
Then you told me it needn’t be that way,
And gave me hope of a better tomorrow.

You were always there for me,
I knew I could count on you.
You gave me advice and encouragement,
Whenever I didn’t know what to do.

You helped me learn to love myself,
You made life seem so good.
You said I could do anything I put my mind to,
And suddenly I knew I could.

Our friendship is one-in-a-million,
So lets hold onto it and each other.
We cannot let this chance of pure bliss fly away,
For there will never be another. [comments] => 9 [counter] => 269 [topic] => 16 [informant] => Stew [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 19 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FriendshipPoetry )

Hey there Poet! Thanks for your comment on mine, I read all of your posted ones after that, so I'll comment on them all in this one. First of all, this poem is magnificent! I would love to send it to my friend I haven't seen in a couple of years. Also, your poem about your dad was heartfelt and honest. I live with my grandma, and she is a recovering alcoholic, so I could certainly relate. You said it perfectly, well done. It's funny that I enjoyed all three of your poems immensely, your Rain made me smile. I love the rain almost as much as I love the wind, and your poem was great. In your comment you said you weren't as good, but Stew, you're wrong about yourself. You have an amazing talent, thank you for sharing it. Send me a personal message if you'd like, I'm interested in talking with you. Keep up the great work.
~Calista

I cannot relate to homelessness, being fortunate enough not to be trapped in such a position, but I find the friendship theme resonant, and I understand your message clearly. It was very well written and conveyed.

Welcome to YPDC.
