Array ( [sid] => 57849 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Fairy birthday party [time] => 2004-07-28 02:57:02 [hometext] => a fairly long poem story written for children i am in the middle of the next chapter [bodytext] => Round wide Eyes , Bright Red hair, freckles and big cheeky grin,
This was Blue the bold Aussie fairy lad who really wanted to win
The annual championship 100 yard Fairy hurdle race at Moonshine fete.
Impatient Blue said he wished the time would fly as he could hardly wait
For it was his Fairy Mum “Shyann’s” birthday and if you still wonder why?
A lovely surprise party and gaily wrapped presents for her he wanted to buy,
The champion hurdle race’s first prize was a shiny new Aussie gold dollar
Enough money he wished, to buy Mum a new dress with a big frilly collar
And a pair of new yellow fairy shoes each with a big shiny silver buckle
All the time Blue daydreaming of the gifts making him grin and chuckle
And he hoped enough money left over for pink lemonade and a birthday cake
Oh! it would be the bestest birthday surprise for his dear Mum he could make.

With Jumbuck, Wattle and Torn Wing, these his three best Fairy mates
Bold Blue for practice ran down the track and jumped all the closed gates,
He trained for an hour or two then three, and still not running out of puff
With his mates running after him until they cried out, enough! , enough !
Tireless Blue knew he would be running against Fairies who were the best,
That’s why he trained long and trained daily, hardly taking time for a rest.
The fete was held once a year at Moonshine farm beside Goanna-fly creek
With gum trees covered with steamers, flags and balloons, it went for a week .

The day of the race came at last and it was hot and with a clear blue sky,
The Runners stood all in a line ready to start, Bang! away the racers did fly,
Blue took off like a shot, running and jumping all the hurdles with ease
Going so fast the dust swirling about making Wattle and Jumbuck sneeze.
With Torn Wing yelling and cheering so loud as Blue raced across the line
He had won! now his wish could come true, how the Gold dollar did shine.
Arm in arm the happy Aussie mates jumped with glee for Blues good luck,
Flying and Skipping all the way to the shop owned by the old Elf Starbuck.

The little shop was nestled in the weeping willow by the road to Fairy Town
Old Starbuck always said a cheery hello! Please come on in and look around,
The quaint little shop was chock full of sweet lollies and cakes, apples and cheese
Bubblegum , fairy floss, pointed shoes, and many coloured dresses to please.
Always smiling and so jolly, old Starbuck and his happy little wife Moonbeam,
Had five laughing Elfin children with big round eyes who all loved ice cream,
All five of them eagerly waited for Blue to arrive and see if he had won the race
For they had made him a medal out of glow- worms tied with a sash of blue lace.

Through the open shop door Blue rushed with the gold dollar in his hand
Please could I have pair of yellow shoes with silver buckles so grand
A new bright flower dress with a big frilly collar and could you make
A ice-cream birthday cake with pink and white fairy floss and could I take
Home 5 big bottles of pink lemonade, a bag of lollies and some bubble gum
Will this gold dollar be enough money for the surprise party for my Mum?
Little Moonbeam and Old Starbuck each with a wide grin said we think so
Five grinning elfin children gleefully helping to tie the presents up with a bow

When all the presents were wrapped and the cake was made with ice-cream ,
Thank you very much, said Blue to the 5 Children Starbuck and Moonbeam.
Torn wing, Jumbuck Wattle and Blue tied the gifts on to Fred the wombats back
Following the wombat the happy fairies went home down the bush track,
They arrived home and quietly went in on tippy-toe, shh! not making a sound
Mum was sitting in the kitchen with Blues sisters and quickly looked around
Blue and the little gang all yelled surprise!, surprise!, happy birthday Mum,
Mum with tears in her eyes hugged Blue and said God bless you everyone.

This is best birthday I ever had and what a surprise,! A birthday party for me
With lollies and soft drinks for your baby sisters Georgiemay and little Jessie,
Mum and the girls opened all the presents while all the fairies danced and sang
While Drinking pink lemonade and bubblegum bubbles popping with a bang!
Dressed in her new dress and shoes Mum was a smiling picture of happiness
Jumbuck, Wattle and Torn Wing called out to Blue, Georgiemay and little Jess
To bring in the birthday cake with candles all alight, and everyone shouted hooray!
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, dear Mum to you happy birthday
Mum hugging Blue said thank you my dear, I will remember today forever,
Darling Blue you are the best son a mother could have, so loving and so clever.

Just then there was a knock on the door, Mum said I wonder who could this be?
Old Starbuck, little Moonbeam and their five elfin children stood smiling with glee
Happy birthday “Shyann” happy birthday to you they all sang out loud and clear,
Blues Mum said Come in, come in, my dear friends you are all very welcome here
All the children can help Georgiemay , little Jessie and me blow the candles out,
Around the table in a circle they danced and blew out the candles with a shout.
The 5 Elfin children called out to Blue we have something really special for you,
All wrapped up in a silver spider web purse was the medal they had made for Blue.
Blue opened the purse and took the medal out, oh! How the glow-worms did flash
Put it on, said Little Jess, then Georgiemay quickly put it on Blue with the lace sash
Proud as punch Blue showed the medal to everyone, he couldn’t believe his luck
I’m so happy and glad, said Mum and kissed Blue, Wattle, Torn Wing, and Jumbuck.

Now the little party sat down and each had a piece of cake and a drink of lemonade
And lots of Lamingtons, chocolate éclairs, ham sandwiches that Mum had made.
Starbuck and moonbeam said oh! isn’t this grand this must be the best party ever,
All the children yelled with delight, thank you Blue we think that you are so clever
When the goodies were eaten and the lemonade gone they went out in the yard to play,
The children all had a turn riding on the wombats back down the road a short way.
Jessie and Georgiemay , and the Elfin children danced around their faces were all a-glow
Shyann saying this was the very best way to end a birthday party she had enjoyed it so.

Thank you Jumbuck ,Torn Wing and Wattle for helping me win the race said Blue,
The three mates blushed bright red saying, we are happy to help a good mate like you
And we would like to do something for your Mum and Starbuck and little Moonbeam!
Then Jumbuck said could we take Georgiemay and little Jess to the fair the next day?
The 5 elfin children shyly asked , oh please, can we come with you, would that be ok?
Moonbeam said we will have to have you bathed and all tucked in bed before moon-glow.
Mummy it will be such fun, squealed Georgiemay and Jessie, please!, please! can we go?
Yes! said Mum for I know that Torn wing, Jumbuck, Wattle will take good care of you ,
Hip hip hooray! we will all have such a beaut time at Moonshine fete said smiling Blue .

So with the mosquitoes starting to buzz around and the firefly lamps gently glowing
A big yellow moon peeping through the gum trees and a warm gentle wind was blowing,
The birthday party was over and Moonbeam led the five elfin children home to bed
The children all ran over to Shyann and gave her a big hug and out the door they fled,
Calling out to Jumbuck ,Wattle and Torn Wing ,goodbye, we will be ready before noon
Old Starbuck and Moonbeam all smiles and grins, waved said goodbye see you all soon.
Off down the moon dappled road they all went with flashing fire-flies showing the way,
The five little Elves all talking about the fun magic rides they would have the next day.

Shyann said to Jessie and Georgiemay, give the boys a hug goodnight, off you go to bed,
Blues sisters said their prayers kissed Mum and pulled the blankets over their head,
With the sandman closing their eyes the girls drifted of to dreamland to dream all night,
Of riding gossamer winged gnats and chasing fat glow-worms in the silvery starlight.
Torn Wing fed Fred the wombat and put him safely in the shed on a nest of warm hay,
And Blue helped Mum to wash up the dishes and Wattle and Jumbuck put them away,
So with the crickets chirping and stars shining bright and the big yellow moon all aglow,
Shyann said to Torn Wing ,Jumbuck, Wattle and Blue, quickly now ,off to bed you go,
The morning sun will be here so quick and you all will have such a fun time at the fete
And Georgiemay and little Jess will be so excited and the 5 little elves won’t want to wait.
