More than just a crime

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Tuesday, 27th July 2004 @ 04:15:40 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

4 letters, such a small word for something so cruel
This most despicable of crimes, the one they call rape
A union of feelings should be given as a gift
Not taken, violated like the ransack of a tomb

Bruises on the outside eventually will heal
Inside the hurt, the torment, will always remain
A life buried under the rubble of despair
A spirit imprisoned with mental scars

I read the morning paper and hold my head in shame
Another of my gender leaves his black mark on the world
A woman to me is beauty, a smile and a sweet caress
Do not give her a demon to carry on her back

Those eyes that plead for it all to stop
Should be filled with passion and a river of love
The beast that rises and falls, grunts approval at his task
Will later fuel fires of mistrust

To the victims I am sorry
For the lack of self control
If justice prevails the sentence is passed
But how little it will balance the scales

What is truly just is perhaps not humane
Yet no more inhuman than the deed itself
For those that suffer but deal with it somehow
Rape is more than just a crime

A very powerfull masterpeice.
When one finds 4-giveness for the perpatraitor, then peace comes.
U r so right about your discription of it being more than a crime.
Maybe in my next life I'll know what it feels like to give oneself freely to one man 4 life.
either way I'm gonna be happy as I made peace with myself which is the hardest part to conquer or was 4 me.
Luv, huggs, smiles, many thanks,
emy

You are so right. What a great and informative write. It touches every single nerve in a womans' body.....clear to her soul, and if that is not enough.....it stays and does takes it toll! It's such a violation of everything we hold so sacred and dear!
So hard to trust after a rape! I loved your empathetic feelings for it's victims.....some survive......others carry it with them all their lives.
Such is our society of today......it is so sad
Beautiful poem to upbuild, and encourage not to lose hope in the Male race!
Poetic hugs
consue
