My husband was a deputy, sworn to serve and protect,
He loved his job with all of his heart, for him it was perfect.
He treated everyone he met, with coureous respect,
From little old ladies to drug dealers, he had a way to connect.

Able to gather information where others tried and failed,
His calm demeanor and rappor, with citizens he did prevail.
Loving every aspect that his dream job entailed,
Untill that fateful August day when his dream job was derailed.

He chased a drunken driver, two children had been struck,
He wrestled with his prisoner, the crowd had gone amuck.
They tried to take his man away to try to beat him up,
He quickly regained his composure, not realizing he'd taken a wallop.

His career now has ended, surgery on 3 herniated disks,
No longer able to do his job, too much of a risk.
Now he is a dispatcher, in a position to still give aid,
I'm so very proud of him, his heart he obeyed. A real good poem, gentledove. And I admire, and am thankful for your husband too. It's an heroic calling.

How sad, Gay, but at the same time how marvelous he found another way to continue in a similar capacity. I know you are very proud of him. You two are very strong people to get through all of that. You have my utmost respect.

Rita
