It just takes a moment
And you fall with a crash
You begin your descent
Down to the cinders and the ash

It just takes one look
And you feel yourself slipping
You can feel where the hook
Suspending you has started tipping

And your world of light
Shutters and dims to dark
And no matter how you try to ignite
You can’t get back even a spark

Now you’re perpetually cold
When once you eternally burned
And you were confident and bold
But now the tables have turned

And deep inside there is a misery
That wasn’t there yesterday
And the feelings that you feel are scary
And they eat at you with decay

Then when you look outside
To where the others exist
You and reality collide -
There’s more to life yet you resist

And everyone watches over you
To see how low you will crawl
Oh if they only knew
How you were beyond it all

Yes, it just takes a moment
And everything falls to the ground
One moment, an inconsequential event
And you’re buried so deep you’ll never be found

I feel for you and your friend. It is so difficult to stand by and watch a dear friend on a road to destruction and be able to do nothing but be there in case they come up for air. We can only hope your friends see the horrific end waiting if they don't.
