she relects
on the fast times
of cold nights and kisses
and quarter-back dreams
the chance for a rich life
being crowned beauty queen
the promise of love
to last past midnight
of poems and presents
and cheerleader teams

she curls up in silence
her insides turned out
for the life that
she had hoped for was
no more than a pipe-dream
the cash she had saved
was spent on her stash
her drug filled fantasies
about to be smashed

life in the fast lane
was not what it seemed
and her dope-dealing
lover turned hippie was
captured and shackled
then led off in chains
she's shattered and tattered
like always left behind
to think of the closeness
of cold nights, quick fixes
and the long ago
abandoned quarter-back dreams

Faith, this is so excruiately sad as it is too true to many many lives these days. They don't seem to understand life cannot be lived like a dream. *****

Great poem, what else can I say, you hit the nail on the head with that!
