Saturday morning
The rain is falling softly over Sydney

It's not like me to name-check
Because we are all citizens beneath the same sky

But I go to the markets by myself now
& you think more about Life when you are alone

You think about
Why did she leave

You think about
What you might have done

If you had the chance again

Probably just break up
In a different way
In a different take
But saying the same things because our hearts are trapped in a circle

And it's been years since I found my way out of the mess
I used to have emotions, now I just have blindness

You think about all those crushes that you had
And they went nowhere
They went the way of teenagers

As we run beneath the sheets
As we avoid looking in each others eyes

You think about words like Love
The way we throw it around
& yeah, the way we kick around trust

Was it her?
Was it me?
Was it just bad timing?

Late at night
I swear there is no-one else out there

Who grooves to black-and-white movies
Who understands this delicate shade of blue and purple

That has now taken over my heart

I watch a lot of Fashion TV
I drink a lot of tea

I'm locked up again
Inside the private universe

I threw away the key
I dream about pets that are under the grass now

Love can be such a pure thing
But it can get so covered in dirt and lies

When people come and see me
They press their hearts against glass

They say just hold on
They say just hold on

Hold on, to tomorrow
And let go of the past

Sunday morning
Sun gently beams down on Sydney

I go to the Park
I got to the Park a lot now

& if she reads this
She'll know what that means
& if she doesn't read this
I've still had my say

I have friends who do drugs
Just like I've had friends who rode the wire until the burning came

But I can't tell anyone
About the fire and the funeral

It's private
& I'm sickened by the voyeurism of the survivors

Some people claim
I lost my way

But I've been lost before and you just don't know peace
You don't ever just relax

These days, I can't decide if I prefer never going to sleep
Or just never waking up

Every new girl is a new chapter,
I'm tough, I'm a city kid, but I'm cursed with a sensitive heart

Was it her?
Was it me?
Was it just bad timing?

Was Steve McQueen gay?
Thats in some book somewhere

Y'know, it makes me feel better if he was

Just to know someone else kept secrets
Just to know someone else kept secrets.

(David Finn, 2004)

A strong work of babblings of Concrete Poetry
akin almost to insight ,and "poetically" touches deeply, yet holds us prisoners (or emancipates us) ...keep it coming...

very good write... the title pulled me as it reminded me of the song by Sheryl Crow.

"And it's been years since I found my way out of the mess
I used to have emotions, now I just have blindness

You think about all those crushes that you had
And they went nowhere
They went the way of teenagers

wow!
