Is a word that is backless
He always asked me to promise
And I made them knowing it was actless
It meant nothing to me
That I thought was plain to see
But I guess he never realized
His feelings were never minimized
He spent days planning a romantic night
I came home tired and ready to fight
I said he was a worthless being
He accused me of cheating
I just sat in the study drinking
Never noticing that his love was sinking
He promised to always be here
But he is with her over there
I packed his stuff and sat it on the lawn
I never saw him come get it I was gone till dawn
I promised I would never leave
Our promises we actually believed
But I guess I was there physically
But I had left along time ago emotionally
He called and I just chased the bottom of the bottle
I went walking to sober up in the rainy drizzle
As I sobered up I realized I was never there for him
I walked to his new house with the gold trim
I waited for him to come outside
I felt like running and finding a place to hide
He listened to me babble on of how I missed what we had
He had that I knew it smirk but his eyes looked sad
I found out I was just a little too late
He already made a wedding date
Now I sit hear and wonder if I really made a mistake
Or if it was the best thing for both our sake
Some promises must just be a safety blanket
But given the chance it will soon be forfeit

This is very sad. I feel that broken promises are just lies by another name.
