pass the cemetery gates
to the hollow ground of fate
to her gravestone
where she rests alone
i have roses to give
and confessions to rid

i hear the croak of a crow
every chirp burrows deep into my soul
the calls grow in number
as if awakening from a long slumber
i lay down the roses wrapped in silk
and before my eyes they wilt

i think of that which is dead
laying in her eternal bed
with her eyes of pale blue
eyes that could stare deep within you
as she faded into the realm of death
she cursed my name with her final breath

this was the time of the mist
and she was accused of being a witch
i was the head preacher so i had no choice
had to go with the towns voice
we were in love but i was bewitched by faith
in the darkness no one feels safe

on with the trial,witnesses agree
into hell she must leave
we march her out to the gallows
next to the creek that runs shallow
we cover her head with a sack
and hang her above a basket of cats

now im standing at her grave
staring at her birth to death dates and name
did you die a christian or were they right?
did you slaughter those children in the night?
i dont want to believe that you casted spells
or right now your burning in hell

in the distance i hear a faint sound
the sounds is of a cats meow
i see a cat in black crossing my path
perhaps shes chasing a graveyard rat
draped over her is a black sheet
all i see is her moving feet

reminds me of a bible tale
of jonah and the whale
where everyone wore black
everyone including the cats
this would protect them from sin
prove their loyalty so god would forgive

as i chase this feline
hopeing its some sort of sign
as i walk up from behind
pick her up and look into her eyes
they are of the palest blue
so deep their staring through

as a chill runs up my spine
could it be her, could it be her eyes?
thinking of what i had done
killing her and our love
we are the monsters of this town
we should be the ones buried in the ground

realizing my fate
i walk past the gates
a tear streams down my cheek
as i wear a black sheet

walking forever across the ground of hollow
holding my soul im enveloped in sorrow
the cat shall always be in my path
and the crows will forever follow

outside im just a man
but inside ...i am...
forever damned

Intriguing. Is this based in the middle ages? Or is it just based loosely 'in the mists'?

Wherever it is, it's a good story - I like the reference to the cats and the one with the blue eyes - very detailed and interesting throughout. I was half-expecting you to correlate bad luck with the black cats, but you didn't, which was good - as where I'm from, a black cat crossing thine path is considered a good omen.

Keep writing.
