Cause mommy forgot to leave some money
And the fridge is empty
While mommy is out drinking
With her friends
And gambling her money away
But it's ok
Cause I've got tic tacs for dinner
And brothers got sunflower seeds
And sisters got peanuts
So it's ok
While daddy's no longer with mommy
And she's not here too make dinner
Like last night
And the last couple weeks
But tomorrow the cupboards are empty
And there's no more tic tacs
Or sunflower seeds
Or peanuts
For us to eat
And mommy's gambling again
And drinking again
And daddy's still not with mommy
Cause they divorced years ago
So for tonight
Brother, sister, and I
Go to bed to get rid of our tummy aches
I remember a time
When mommy used to cook dinner
And didn't come home at midnight each night
Tripping up the stairs
Laughing loudly
And I remember a time
When we'd eat dinner
As a family
Every night at 7 o'clock on the dot
And I remember a time
When daddy was still with mommy
They would rarely drink
And always be home
Daddy would take us to our baseball games
Mommy would take us to movies
But then on one day
Mommy called us to the living room
And daddy was crying
And mommy sat us down
Telling us that the were divorcing one another
Because things weren't working between them
But it wasn't our fault
Oh no
It wasn't our fault
But we'd still see daddy on the weekends
But eventually
That stopped
As sister turned 16
She stopped going
To see our horrible father
Who was never there
Cause mommy divorced him
And the brother turned 16
And drove me once
But never came back
To see our horrible father
Who wasn't ever there
Cause mommy wasn't getting along
So now I go alone
To see the father I love
With all my heart
Because my father
Doesn't come home tripping up the stairs
He's always there
To talk or watch a movie with
I don't wake up
Not knowing where he is
He doesn't go and drink with his friends
Or go gamble all his money away
And I never have to eat tic tacs there
I never have to go to bed
Just to stop my starvation
Thats at my mothers house
For these ten years
I have been sleeping with an empty stomach
And wondering where my mother is
When I wake and when I sleep
For these ten years
I have been waking up in the middle of the night
Listening to my mother stumble up the stairs
Trying to find her bed
For these ten years
I've been seeing my mother with different men
I've been hearing them in her bed
While I've been going to bed
For these ten years
I've been missing my father
I've been missing my mother
And I've been eating tic tacs for dinner. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 181 [topic] => 39 [informant] => Asatru [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 3 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Grief )
Tic Tacs for dinner

*cringes*
awww that's terrible.
sometimes parents ignore their responsibilities as, well, parents, and they just get too carried away and stuff...

I found this poem to be heartachingly sad,
with a sense of yearning for something that was there and then suddenly snatched away from you.
We're learning about this at school, about parents who are alcoholics and what sort of environment they're placing their kids into ,and it just tears me apart thinking about it.
If you ever need anyone to talk to, I'll always be here....

Chin up Asatru.........life can be very very hard....but remember you are growing too and one of these days.......you may look back and remember........but those days will be few! I'm so very sorry for you, and I wish I could give you a great big hug indeed!
You are in my prayers, and I'm so happy you can write all of this down......it helps you to empty your soul!
Love you
