Array ( [sid] => 55946 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => TRUTH-LITE [time] => 2004-07-13 03:41:36 [hometext] => [bodytext] => 'Although we have not found stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, we were right to go into Iraq.'

This is a statement
Not a fact
It does not justify
The Iraq attack

'I had a choice to make: either take the word of a madman or defend America. Given that choice, I will defend America every time.'

These two are not
Opposing poles
It’s not one or the other
Simplistic goals

'We removed a declared enemy of America, who had the capability of producing weapons of mass destruction and could have passed that capability to terrorists bent on acquiring them.'

No capability was found
Do I hear you sigh
He keeps on telling
The same old lie

Like a broken record
He keeps lying on
“We did right
Though WMD were gone!”

A politician
Is NEVER wrong
They just keep playing
The same old song
“I am tough!”
“I am right!”
“Black is White!”
“And Day is Night!”

It's the same old story
It's TRUTH-LITE

He will ALWAYS defend
No matter WHAT the facts
Using the background boys
To cover his tracks

They fashion shiny morsels
They find the words
To make truth-lite
From his turds

It doesn’t matter
WHAT is true
They’ll find SOMETHING
To convince you

A nuance here
An innuendo there
Some association
To bring repair

A noble thought
Some patriotic lore
The backroom boys
Have an endless store

Look at this!
Look at that!
THIS is wrong!
We are right!

It's the same old story
It's just TRUTH-LITE

What’s the soundbyte for today?
What will sound real good to say?
What will put Kerry on his heels?
It's not the truth it's how it FEELS!

Pull their emotions
This way and that
Look real saintly
(And not like a rat)

Pretend to the high ground
The resolute way!
(Not the ugly truth
Of reality)

There were no WMDs in Iraq?
Okay… We'll get round that...
Emphasise another tack
Pick up that OTHER bat

Twist and turn
Yet still look right
That’s quite a trick

It is TRUTH-LITE

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
