From my bed I jumped, running to the door,
And what I saw there froze me to my core.
I backed away and prayed I’d been dreaming.
From the cracked earth now there came a steaming.
And from the sky their eyes began to pore.

They watched us as we ran around and fell.
Then slowly the descended to the earth,
And to a new beginning they gave birth.
But to our eyes we only saw our hell.
Within a place we thought we knew so well.
The arrogance of man had killed our mirth.

They burned away the ones that they found bad.
The ministers and presidents alight.
With nothing at our hands with which to fight;
Our helplessness was really all we had.
Denial was the thing we used to pad.
But no amount of black could block our sight.

Still on this cleansing went for days on end.
Until so few of us were left alive.
And then our living hell began to thrive.
For we became the slaves they would depend.
And to their ev’ry fancy we’d attend.
The drones now there within the queen bees hive.

They treated us with nothing but contempt.
Our torture was their entertaining game.
And to this play they gave a morbid name.
We thought escape, and welcomed the attempt.
But then we found our pain was not exempt.
For by our masters, left within the flame.

So many years had passed amongst our pain.
With so much loss endured without a voice.
Would never there arise another choice?
Forever’s this dark pit to live again,
For in our bonds it’s freedom we can’t gain.
Oh, will the time be birthed for our rejoice.

Watch now as dark becomes the dawning end.
While nothing is so empty as our hope,
Still nothing is a strong as binding rope.
My sanity is gone I have no friend.
There’s far too much for me to just amend.
Through cowardice I find a way to cope.

And how long can this torture just go on?
Long past the lonely point of no return,
So much has been destroyed and left to burn.
But will I miss it more when I am gone?
Will I be empty when I’m not their pawn?
Or will I just deflate when it’s my turn?

I heard the words that I have come to dread.
Our conquerors are soon to rise and leave.
But why does this not help my fear relieve?
I cower hear beneath my sheets and bed.
Awaiting final poisons we’ll be fed.
A promise to be spared I don’t believe.

Then I woke to hear the sounds of silence.
I wandered through the streets so long accursed.
While from my eyes my burning tears then burst.
In the sun I found a brand new brilliance.
Left in me I found not my own salience.
An empty shell was now my only curse.

So now I lay here dead, I am alone.
Is this the way the end was meant to be?
Or is there something more that I can’t see?
And were those demons bread within my stone?
And, for their actions, now must I atone?
Oh please, can’t someone now just set me free?

I’m tired, but can’t sleep; this is insane.
My soul it burns to be released at last.
So to the fates I plead my die be cast.
For I know there are things I can’t attain.
And in the end I know they must restrain.
But I’m prepared for judgment on my past.

The answer to my plea it has now come.
The sisters have begun to weave my rhyme.
For now this has been judged to be my time.
So too their mercies I must now succumb.
For through my tortures I have paid my sum.
So now my soul is new and free of crime.
