To love you true
Though I'm afraid
I'll hurt you too

Love is a path-
The hardest to walk
The treasures it holds
Are hard to unlock

But treasures indeed
And riches not small
For he who seeks love
And follows her call

The problem with walking
The path of love-
Too often we stumble
And fall from above

My heart is bruised
He fell from too high
He's lost his wings
And desire to fly

But you pick him up
With your warm hand
And set my feet
Back on the land

Once again
I hear love calling
And in her arms
I've started falling [comments] => 9 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 2 [informant] => wachumiri [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 34 [ratings] => 7 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )

Love can be a painful thing indeed (though who am I to say that to you???). But it especially hard in youth, with all the forces that tug at a fellow's brain. Like the blueberry pheasants, for instance. Brr!

Blindingly powerful as it is, the love of youth is an inconstant thing. I think we need to strive for mature love... the kind where no action of passion is unrestrainable, whether it is actually restrained or no. I think I am beginning to see how desirable that quieter, less dependent kind of love really is. Weird how undesirable it seems to the follies of a youthful mind...

Anyway, I'm rambling. But it seems the best way to attain selfless love (the sort that won't hurt the one you love) is to grow beyond the need for romantic love in your life. Like many things - God gives them when we've learned to do without them. Ugly but true.

You said something like this at the last Inklings meeting we attended back in England, didn't you, Jack?

May the road rise up to meet you, and the wind be ever at your back.
Tollers

Wow! I love that poem. And my name at the top! I must be pretty special. Hahaha! Sorry, I was in a romantic mood before I read Andrew's silly comment. I think he's trying to advise us of certain things in his very unsuttle way. Thanks Andrew. (now shut up) Yes, well, David, that was an amazing poem. I know I sure loved the last stanza! Beautiful poem to reflect a beautiful soul. It was so poetic and LOVEly. Keep writing. (about me if you feel so lead). Take care.

I think he had a good poin, Carrie.
One good point...
Anyhow, you're welcome, Carrie.
Take care all, and thanks for the comments.

**giggles with glee**
This is so cute--cute because I know the two of you and because I've heard so much about the situation from Carrie...

Really though, it's quite a romantic poem. I really liked the way you described the healing and such.

Wonderful piece and much luck to the happy couple :-D

Lots of LOVE and peace be with you,

Chelsea

lovely, brother, very lovely. Remember though, before you did not love- you do now. At least you better. Because if you don't I will hurt you, because this girl is amazing. I love carrie, and I will skin you alive if you lead her astray.

Your loving adopted sister

Whilst some of the third lines on alternating stanzas shift from meter to meter, I found the overall message rather free and heartfelt.

Having read 'The Knight', I think this one lacks its rhythmic qualities in comparison, but is a good read nontheless.

Thanks for sharing it.

I also love the last stanza. You sound so cautious at the beginning and gently hopeful at the end.
Good Work
Ann
