I was terrified when I was 5 yrs old,
If the door was ajar I’d scream for mum,
My frightened voice made her come.

She’d sit me on her knee,
Tell me there was nothing to see,
Pop me back into bed,
Lay a sweet kiss on my head.

Over my covers I’d peep,
To afraid to go to sleep,
In case the monster appeared,
Looking all scary & weird.

Even now at Twenty-one,
Having the door open is no fun,
I lay in bed & feel fear,
Wondering if the monster is near?

People giggle when I say,
I believe in the monster to this day,
I suppose it does sound a bit silly,
That at my age it gives me the willies.

Well I won't giggle. The monster is real and we can only fight him with the light of love, because that's what HE fears! 0:-)
Keep on trekking!
Angel always...godspeed...joni

There are too many things in this world to fear my friend. Imagine if you can that standing on the other side of the door is your dearest friend and then maybe it will help ease those fears.

Great write.

Don't feel silly. I am 57 and I am still afraid of the dark. Nothing has ever gotten me but I think it is because I keep a close eye out. I even use a nightlight, because monsters hate light. One can never be too careful, you know.

Hugs,
Rita

I knew I wasn't the only adult sporadically intimidated by a closed closet door at night. Have you ever been in the basement, and been alright until it was time to go back up the stairs. I almost bust my ass many a time getting upstairs being afraid that something unreal would grab my ankle from under the stairs.
