I prayed they were tears of Joy falling
Cause the angels were calling
A Old Soldier Home

73 years he roamed this earth ,
raised a family and did some living
all over.
And finally when he settled
he made here home.
Watching always from a distance
Never to infringing
Never too bold ,Kinda quiet and shy
A perfect sort of man
God fearing ,loyal ,faithful til the end.

He has gone to glory
The angels have called him home
and as I stood by his gravesite
in the down pour of rain.
I felt him take my hand .

And from
somewhere
came a Whisper

Do Not be afraid.

He sounded like a beautiful soul. I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Peace be with you as I know he will be until you meet again.

A lovely tribute. The final words of this poem sent a chill down my back. I was imagining myself standing by a friend's grave, and I think the usual line would be a whisper like "I'll always be with you" or something like that, but for someone to whisper "do not be afraid" is really quite awe-inspiring. I would know then that I did not have to be afraid of living my life without them, and that on the other side everything is OK. I think that one sentence alone can carry you through anything you have to suffer.
