We the People

Contributed by Relemy on Wednesday, 23rd October 2002 @ 11:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: political

We say we’re sorry,
but we don't act like
we mean it.

We chastise others
for actions we still deny:
we were built by lies.

We take what is
felt rightfully ours,
depose those who
oppose our views,
and then claim
to be purveyors
of Freedom
and Liberty.

We have an
open market,
so it’s said;
but not an
open mind,
though we state.

We reach out
with open arms,
a paradox in
action and policy.
Our weak hand
offers ideas,
support, supplies
to aid, to better:
advancing others.

While, our strong hand
steals from peasants,
depletes near
everyone’s
share of resources,
noxiously transplants
our culture:
destroying diversity
en masse.

We, if ever it was,
is no longer
representative of
a collective of persons,
a union of actual entities.
No. Now, we is simply
a proxy of money,
greed, self-interest.
A Babylon system
annexing souls
chosen to lead,
controlling those
entrusted with
technological advance,
forcing afoot
consumerism’s
toxic reliance.
Purely an order
to grow rich richer.
and poor poorer.

We the People
are the true voice:
We the People
are supposed to rule.
Yet, We the People don’t,
seems We the People won’t,
by happenstance,
provision, or choice.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
