from time show on her face, as the twilight
shapes my silhouette on her bedroom walls
where I become my mother's
mother.

Rumpled sheets caress her, our hands
intertwine, warmth passing from one
generation to another, while she whispers
of love as if meeting me for the very first
time.

Her eyes still shine as I gaze into those deep
blue seas, revealing private roads we traversed
as one, while warm breezes court secrets of
planted gardens that reveal her
seamless self.

Forgetting her is not an option as her silver
cane now forever abandoned at the door,
still make promises her steps, as my
unrelenting cadence finds quiet next
to hers.

I speak in muted tones, saying we will be
together forever, while reflections of my life,
like dry roots almost free of dirt that clings,
plant faint memories to meet again someday
as I look for her evanescent smile one more
time.
