An Age of Excuses.

AN AGE OF EXCUSES…(©Peter Sprenkeler)

In all our modern urgencies and daily concerns,
We overlook so much and duly reap what this earns.
We have not the time to reflect on another’s pain,
In selfish pursuits we graft in the main.

We are too busy to consider that millions starve,
The knife of famine through multitudes does carve.
Tens of thousands of children die pitifully each day,
While most of the world watches idly…this pure dismay.

Hunger and poverty so prolific…we turn a blind eye,
Of our lack of humanity does this not testify?
Millions of refugees whom have nothing but pain,
While we pursue wealth and more material gain.

We have not the time for compassion…or even care,
Largely concerned with only our own welfare.
We are consumed by apathy…the world’s problems too great?
And the consequence of this attitude…for many it is all too late.

Seems there is always a valid reason in our hectic lives,
To show scant regard…on how another race survives.
We sit on our hands…we refuse to become involved,
It is up to someone else…to see these dilemmas solved.

We live in an age of carelessness…constant excuses,
Where is the outrage…when we witness all these abuses?
Where is our conscience…or has it also died?
When was the last time in love…for mankind we cried?

Amen, brother. We sure do live in selfish times. What would it take to get people to live in love? Is it even possible? Thanks for sharing. Beautifully done.
