I remember

when you would knock on the door to my room

as soon as possible
so I could get back to what I was doing
and I remember
when I used to confide in you
tell you my secrets, my little-kid crushes
and make you promise not to tell

it's been a long, long time
since I've told you a secret

and I wonder what you'd think
if I told you that I just made myself break up
with someone you've never heard of
who I "met" on a website you don't know about
and who I've never met in person
and likely never will,
crying for someone I never wanted to hurt,
and seeing him take the news
better than I could give it.

and, though I can't imagine myself telling you
'cause I just don't tell you things anymore,
I have one tiny request--

tonight, when I go to bed,
and tell you, "night, Mommy"
instead of my usual, "night, Mom",

. . . don't tease me about it, okay? [comments] => 24 [counter] => 467 [topic] => 48 [informant] => ShadowDaughter [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 66 [ratings] => 14 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

Nora,
This is one of my favorites. It's got that little girl quality. That, "if only mom could come kiss my booboo", everything is better type of stuff. I love it. You didnt have to tell us this was an emotional write to know that you're hurting. You describe it so well. And as you already know, but I want to confirm, I am always here if you need me. Night or day. Anytime. Feel better nora. But never stop writing these poems. They are amazing. As are you. And people are lucky to get to share these moments with you. Thank you for being a great friend Nora. Always there for me. :)

Alright going to go before I get too mushy,
Oh too late.
Lindsey

This is sad, but beautifully written. A page from your heart. Nora, I think somewhere in all of us we all still need our Mommy's at times. I know I do.

Love n hugs,
Rita

I don't even know what to say Nora.
Painful.. Very painful...
It brings back memmories of my life... In ways... The loss of connections in a certain aspect...
I barely know what to say here Nora... I wish I did.

Nora, this is so powerful, so deep...gorgeous, yet sad, enchanting, yet poignant. Of all poets i've read in my life, famous or otherwise, you're work hits me the hardest; you are the only writer who can really bring a tear to my eye.

This is touching, and every word falls into place perfectly. Thank you for sharing this amazing piece.

With love, chocolate, aarkvarks (chocolate aarkvarks?!?!? lol), rainbows and all things good,
-Dan

There is not a word that I could put here that would fully explain what this poem did to me. By far... this is the hardest comment I've written to date. I am... without words, Nora (and YOU KNOW that's not like me!). Oh gosh... I just want to gush all over this one. It really, really touched me. And Oh! can I relate to this!

Exceptional, beautiful, powerful, amazing, eloquent, incredible, inciteful, unbelievable.... not even all those words together are enough.
Not just Wow - but Pow, you know? And yeh... ouch. Pass the tissues this way, Nora - you got me.

Stand up and take a bow!
I am simply, utterly, blown away-

It's not often I comment twice, but this one deserves it. Every time I read this, I want to cry and give my mom a hug. This is way beyond anything as primitive as beautiful.

I loved this the first time, and I love it now. You're right, it was a glimpse deeper into your heart than we usually get, and it touches my own heart.
Slàn my friend.

Ok I'm with everyone else, this is tear-rendering, simply because we all feel this in some part of ourselves I think, and I understand how this could be so emotional that it's almost scary, as you say. One question I had was about

and before the world lost its polish
when I used to call you "Mommy"

coz I thought it was the world polishing YOU that made you go from Mommy to Mom? Then again I suppose you're talking about a different kind of polish, like the magic of a lifetime where honest love and faith and trueheartedness still existed.. Anyways good, life-changing stuff, I'm gonna go help my mum cook dinner now :)

I had to come back here, Nora. And - like Dan - I rarely comment more than once (I can think of only one other occasion that I did so). I've read this a number of times now... and wanted to mention that it loses nothing with the familiarity that comes from multiple reads. It may well increase in its ability to move the reader.

I remain astounded by this piece and I'm rather sure I will always, always feel that way. There are so very many reasons that I find this beautiful. I've tried twice now - but - I'm now resolved that I will never be able to tell you how much this has moved me.

I do so wish I could though-

As a mom, this is wrenching. My daughter is 12. She still shares with me. I don't ever want that to change. I hate it when she has a friend around and they whisper to each other. I don't embarass her by making her tell, but I hate it. I wan't to be her "mama" forever. I know she has to grow up, but I never want to lose the connection to the fact that she's my little girl.

I'm lost for words Nora.
I don't know exactly what to say.
This is such a tear jerker.
The way I feel right now, it won't take much.
Such a sad piece.

You've touched a point that most parents experience with sadness. Its not often to be something recognized much less commented on by the daughter, or son.
My highest compliments to you on not only a touching and heart wrenching write, but on the ability to even think to put in words.

wow! this so touched me i really like it. i think this happens to everyone, they grow apart from their family and closer to their friends (im there right now) but soon enough we will relise what our families mean to us and they will always be there and we will go back soon enough
