Effusion on an endless journey,
Coldness never came.
Ground not fertile underfoot would crumble,
Heat began to drain.

Javelin light beams transfixing, blinding,
Rocks so hot they shimmer.
No immediate shelter for me to hide in.

Sand dunes so steep, colored plumes wind blown,
Seemed to conceal in a gritty tunic.
Suns rays had cast and shown.

Alone thoughts in a parasol, my mind dancing wildly,
I climb to discover a building of long ago.
An entrance I spy in passing.

Flicking my eyes slowly from side to side I descended into the darkness,
Torch light beams touched walls of old,
Thoughts screamed with hurtling laughter.

Adorned symbols on mottled walls,
Statues stare glassy tall as I descend.
Spider webs woven shawls.

Sole tread muted,
Past indentations fluted,
And a hole in the wall.

My mind to canter,
With fascination banter,
Expression said it all.

Dust cascaded sensuously as it descended all around,
As if laying a carpet to calm my pounding heart.
A sweet aftermath of no sound.

Stone fitted so tight no seams were visible,
Interiors seemed blessed but humble.
Beauty so holy it was remarkable.

On I crept enjoying my find,
Heat began to lesson I could feel it release its grip.
Passageways dreamy colored some pillared and lined.

Aquamarine paintings on walls like waves of lace,
Almost inviting me to draw nearer.
I stare transfixed at a lost beautiful face.

I was struck by one thing,
Eyes so green and mosaic.
An ancient Goddess my thoughts began to sing.

As I entered another chamber of amber,
A stone throne I spotted to my right.
Winged armrests welcomed me to sit,
A feathered gesture in the sharp torchlight.

As I sat the wings enveloped me,
Like silk to keep out biting insects.
I felt I wasn’t free.

Yet I felt no harm on the contrary I felt inner piece,
Looking down I was robed in feathers of gold.
Rhythmic patterns reverberated through the folds.

Against what I held to be common sense,
I felt an established order.
Perfumed aroma greeted me, as the air grew dense.

In fascination I felt feathery ripples underlet,
It was like I was being anointed.
Warmth for a few moments then it departed.

My Lord…My Lord,
You have returned to us at last.
Let us worship your arrival and bask.
Your robes flowing a colorful spread,
We your servants long time dead.
Generals, Admirals, and senators will rise,
Effusion on an endless journey before your eyes.
