Patterns of war and destruction imprinted on colour once so bright,
Now hidden and dull behind a mask of lies.
A wrinkle for every soul that’s died, a maze of lines.
Stare into sunken skin, so pained, so shy
(tears that once formed rivers, used so much they now run dry)

Look into your sheltered, hollow ears.
Scarred and bleeding from so many things you weren’t prepared to hear.
Lead to a space so sacred, once so pure and clear,
Now lost behind thorns and metal gates, planted lovingly in fear.
And pearls of wisdom echo loudly, drowned in oceans so clear
(they used to accept so easily, now just wait for the final word to appear)

Listen to your misguided, crying mouth.
Cracked and sore from so many years of abuse and political rows,
So many false words to hide yourself and the image you give out.
Wars rage, children die and all you do is stand and shout
For nothing; for your religion, for your 2.4 children and beautiful house
(once kisses were given so easily, now smiles are false and lied about)

Watch your silent, hidden pain.
Engraved so deeply it’s become a part of his wounded face.
From the second we are born we are taught to regret, to fear, to be ashamed.
Faces lined with an ache and a need that’s so hard to refrain
The need to love, the need to smile, the need to change.
(skin once glowed with innocence, now dull with pain)

(eyes programmed to see the world as one and the same)
(ears tuned to only listen to the government and what they are taught to say)
(mouths fed with drugs to make sure that none of us change)
(bodies ache with the fear of a thousand younger weights)

(peel back the layers on your weary face)
(find the seam where the skin joins to hide the metal frame)
(wash away the colour until you’re just a blank page)

(take a box of paints)
(and start again…)

Wow I think this just re-wrote my view on what amazing is. I loved the anger and the truth in this there was no attempt to hide or sugar coat anything. Wow thnx for sharing this with us your poems are a treat to read.
