Perpetual Love

Contributed by Esther on Thursday, 17th June 2004 @ 07:39:28 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

A soldier standing at the depot
Holding his fiancé tight
Whispering into her ear,
“Will you always remember me?”

Fingering the ring on her finger
She stared defiant into his eyes,
And hugged him back
Memorizing his looks, his smell, his feel

He sat on the train, his back bent
As he sat holding the picture
Of the two of them together
In his large and strong, naïve hands

She stood before the tree
Perfecting the yellow ribbon wreathed upon it
Whispering into the night,
“I will love you forever”

Months passed without a day
He didn’t hold the worn out picture
In his now experienced hands
Carrying their perpetual love in his heart

But she learned to move on
She went to parties
Flirting smiles danced upon her face
As her feet danced upon the floor

He stared at the stars on a distant land
She looked up as she exited a party
He whispered, “Will you always remember me?”
She smiled into another man’s face
