"30 DAYS"

After a sleepless night, I glanced at my typewriter.
Sunrays light up it's keyboard, I should be bitter.
What thought enters your mind first, when told,
"You probably have less than thirty days to live, if controlled?"

Disbelief? Panic? Depression? Dread? Numbness?
Echoes inside a huge tunnel, nothingness, bleakness!
This is just another bad nghtmare, you know that?
As your brain begins to absorb, you say, "But, my cat?"

He's almost 20 years old now, I'll have him put to sleep.
No one will care for him like I did, then you start to weep.......
Oh My Dear God, what does all this mean to you?
Could this be a bad mistake? Can you come to my rescue?

I must first think of my family, do I tell them?
I just saw them all last week, think of the sadness and mayhem?
They all live long distances from me, they will want to come.
I couldn't take that, having all the noise would be gruesome!

My will was redone just last year, I'll call my attorney.
Make a "check list" of all the items, I won't tell him, it's too gory!
My Dear Heavenly Friend, I've walked with you for over 40 years.
It will take your strength to lighten my load when the end nears!

After my dear soulmate died, I took up writing.
But, how do you write about your own aching, bleeding?
I could never find the words to match my emotions,
My heart strings like tendons, tight with tensions!

I can be so grateful for atleast 30 days of warning.
Life will go on for me like always, with days of ailing.
Millions die in a split second, no time even to pray.
Never given a warning of their demise....not even one day!

I've always tried to live each day of life, as my last!
I'm so thankful I had the privilege of loving so many in my past.
For if you can say nothing else about the life that you live.
Be remembered for kindness, loving ways, and generously yourself to give.

I HAVE thought of this on many occasions. I would be grateful for having lived at all, and blessed by my writing carrying on. Afterall, many poets only become famous AFTER they pass on. ::::rolls eyes:::: 0:-)
Angel always.... godspeed...joni
p.s. awesomely thought provoking as usual!!!

I hope I never know when it is going to happen. It is to hard on the ones that will be left behind. I just keep my affairs in order and live each hour of each day. I knew when my loved one was going to die and it didn't help at all. Death is not something you are ever prepared for no matter how much advanced notice you have.

Love,
Rita

It's a beautiful poem, but... I hope it is just a thought-provoking wonder like you say it is...

I don't want to know before hand that I'm going to go... I'd be scared, and I would just want to keep living just as I was before, not with the fear of death hanging over my head...

I found this poem to be very sad, death is such a difficult situation to go through. Anticipating death is even worse.
Thought provoking and sad in essence. I thought it was really well written and powerful in a sense as well.
Good job.

Hello Connie, I hope that this is from your imagination and not an OMEN EST NOMEN kind of poem. This is I think a touch of depression where all the bad thoughts flock together to trap you in a desolute state of mind. If it is depression Connie see your Doctor a few of those little coloured pills always work wonders with me when I am down in the dumps. Try to keep smiling even when things do seem desperate, they will pass. Hugs and poetic love from

bernard.

Splendid poem Con Sue!
The former commentators said it all. so I say only AMEN AMEN AMEN.
None of us knows when it will please the Lord to call us onto Him, and it is fruitless to speculate, it comes so different than we plan and speculate.
Amenalso to John Wesley Rule" verse, "Love as much as possible, where, when whomsoever possible.
Thanks for sharing ConSue this remarkable poem.
Love
Elizabeth
