along the branch most taken
writing slow and steady
comes an old poet most brazen

writing light and free whistling
as he comes lost in reverie
moving right along engaged
in mischief and ancient hymnody.

wordy vagabond, lying truth speaker
storyteller, mythmaker walking along
The Old Come Along Trail whistling
as he goes merrily berrily along.

on he comes bright eyes focused
somewhere, somewhere out there,
moving along whistling an old song
road weary voyager without a care.

he comes on a quest on a journey
seeking what there is to find.
soldier of the revolution and defender
of the faith, bartering for life in kind.

crotchety old pain merrily whistling
as he comes. searching for a song
an image, a line, a word he goes
merrily berrily among the throng.

writing slow and steady
comes an old poet most brazen
down The Old Come Along Trail
along the branch most taken
