I knew in an instant that I needed to brake,
I knew that you were coming to fast,
But it registered to late.
Someone didn't take your keys,
Maybe I should've been the one to care,
I was supposed to be your best-friend,
To contradict you, I wouldn't dare...
I'm just sorry that it was you.
Of all the people on the roads that night,
It was you that didn't stop,
I know that you weren't thinking,
And now my car is on it's top.
I knew that it was you,
I saw the horror on your face,
In the split second
Before my life was erased.
I'm just sorry it was you.
I didn't want you to have to live your life
Regretting what you'd done,
Believe me if I could,
I would have replaced you with another one,
I should have been there,
I knew that you would be drinking,
But I really didn't think that all your friends
Wouldn't be thinking.
I didn't go to the party,
I had to work that night,
So I let you go alone,
You'd be ok,
What a great insight
I had to the way that night would
Gradually unfold,
I should've gone with you,
Should've told
Someone to look after you,
This is all my fault,
I wish that you would speed away,
Now, before you're caught.
I know that you didn't mean it,
Maybe it's all you knew to do,
For all the people to have hit my car that night,
I'm just sorry it was you. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 207 [topic] => 39 [informant] => ginsdance [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 2 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Grief )

My youngest sister was killed by a drunk driver who was also high on cocaine. I cannot even begin to tell you the unbelievable agony it brought me. This poem hit home for me....
